Although the current i8 failed to fully realize BMW's original intention of sporty performance, it clearly did not make the German luxury brand give up its pursuit of high-end hybrid sports cars. Development work on the next generation of i8 (we prefer to call it the i8M because it should have significant performance improvements over the current model) is already underway, and BMW's Vision M Next concept car released in mid-2019 is the best proof. Significantly improved power, longer all-electric cruising range, a completely new look, and a more solid chassis-these will be key factors that distinguish the i8M from the current model it will eventually replace.
