The BMW X4 is a compact luxury SUV that is a maverick choice. That's right, you can choose the square X3, which has the same excellent powertrain and chassis adjustments as the slip-back X4-after all, the X3 is not only cheaper, but also has a more spacious interior space. The head space and trunk volume are both larger. But for some people, mediocre choices really don't appeal, and this is when the X4 with sharp lines comes on the scene. The X4 xDrive 30i is powered by a 248-horsepower four-cylinder engine, while the more sportier X4 M40i is powered by a 382-horsepower turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine. All X4 models come standard with all-wheel drive, functional and textured interiors that can accommodate four passengers or five if the passengers are close. Its main rivals-the Mercedes GLC Coupe and the Audi Q5 Sportback-are more comfortable than sporty.
