F-150 Lightning

Most size electric pickup trucks are designed from scratch with unique platforms and bodies, but Ford has gone a different path. Lightning continues the time-tested best features of the fuel-based F-150 and adds two motors and a separate rear suspension. In the end, it presented a pick-up truck with a familiar appearance, no fancy gimmicks, and a practical job. However, the limitations of the electric powertrain mean that it can be towed but will significantly shorten battery life-in our tests, battery life was reduced by two-thirds-while also reducing the payload. Like the huge front trunk and the ability to act as a backup "generator", fuel trucks cannot match, Lightning's 0-60 mph acceleration time even exceeds that of the Raptor R. Competition in this segment has intensified over the past few years, and now includes the Rivian R1T, the GMC Hummer EV pickup trucks and Sierra EV, the Chevrolet Silverado EV, and the new Ram 1500 REV launched in 2025-the latter draws on a trick or two from Ford's "don't change it if it works well" approach. As one of our most promising models, the Ford F-150 Lightning has been selected for our 2025 Editors 'Choice Awards list.
