GranTurismo Folgore

Folgore, the Italian word for “lightning,” is Maserati’s EV sub-brand. Applied here to the GranTurismo sports car, the EV system’s 818 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive deliver ferocious acceleration to go along with the car’s curvaceous looks. With the same four-seat arrangement as the near-identical-looking, gas-fed GranTurismo coupe, the Folgore provides an inviting cabin fitted with sustainable materials that underscore its petroleum-free powertrain’s green cred. Steering is light, and the air-spring suspension can be dialed from comfortable to aggressive via a selection of drive modes. Our only wish is that it had more of the Maserati intangibles—namely, the guttural growl and exhaust pops-and-crackles of the company’s gasoline twin-turbo V-6. But such attributes are tough to get across with a near-silent, smooth electric powertrain. Sun-seekers can opt for the convertible version, the GranCabrio Folgore, and Maserati still makes the turbo-V-6 gas version of the GranCabrio, which is where you’ll find the Folgore’s missing soundtrack. Luxury electric coupes are still a rarity, so this car’s alternatives will have four doors.
