Mazda has confirmed that it will offer a hybrid version of its next-generation CX-5 SUV as a 2027 model, and we expect its styling won't look all that different from the nonhybrid model. While the similarly sized Mazda CX-50 Hybrid borrows a powertrain from the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Mazda says the 2027 CX-5 will serve as the debut model for the brand’s own hybrid system. Details on the CX-5 Hybrid’s powertrain haven’t been released, but we suspect it will be a four-cylinder gas engine with two electric motors and, like other Mazda SUVs, it should offer standard all-wheel drive. While a plug-in variant could also be in the works, we see only one fuel door in spy photos, leading us to believe the model being tested here is a conventional hybrid. When more information is released about the 2027 CX-5 Hybrid, we’ll update this story with details.
