Versa

If rumors prove correct, you won't be able to buy a new vehicle that costs under $20,000 after the 2025 Nissan Versa ends its production run. This comes only five years into the current generation and after the demise of the only other sub-$20k vehicle, the Mitsubishi Mirage. Over its lifetime, the Versa has provided basic transportation with solid fuel economy for those on limited budgets. It's not impressive when it comes to performance, but it is comfortable, easy to drive, and doesn't feel like a typical penalty box. It seems unlikely that Nissan will abandon low-cost sedans or hatchbacks altogether, but we'd be shocked if its replacement could match the Versa's price point. The Hyundai Elantra and the new Kia K4 are nicer alternatives but start in the low $20,000 range. So if that extra four or five grand is a dealbreaker, we suggest picking up a new Versa soon. As one of our favorites in its segment, the Nissan Versa has earned a spot on our Editors’ Choice list for 2025.
