14 years is a long time for competition to mature, and the Model S is no longer the undisputed EV champion that it was when it launched in 2012. But with seriously strong range and mighty performance, the Model S can still hang with the young bloods. This year's facelift smooths over some of the Model S's wrinkles and plays to its strengths, increasing range in the standard model to 410 miles of EPA-estimated range, a figure surpassed by only the Lucid Air. While the Model S might not meet the luxury benchmark set by models like the BMW i4 and Mercedes-Benz EQE, it has the speed bases covered. Fierce acceleration from both the 670-hp base model and the ludicrous 1020-hp Model S Plaid proves that the aging heavyweight still has some fight left to give between stoplights.
