2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 Tested: Change Is Good

I refused at first...

You understand? Every time someone says,"Change the model, change the model", my first reaction is-ha, I changed the color of the Chinese net and started harvesting leeks? But the 2025 EQS450, emmm... To be honest, I was slapped in the face. And it was quite loud. It's not the kind of pretentious "if you don't buy it, you don't know how to car", but the feeling of getting in and driving it, you get the damn "Well, that's right" feeling. Yes, the changes are coming more violently and smarter than I imagined.

The front face finally stopped being "toad"

God, the closed front face of the old model really takes a little courage to accept it. After the 2025 model has been changed, it has a bit more solemnity of a traditional S-class, and even a bit more calmness of an EQS SUV-although it is still an electric car, at least it no longer looks like an "alien visitor" grinning on the roadside. The daytime running light band has narrowed and the black panel has also become smaller, which looks a bit fierce like AMG from a distance. I admit that the first time I saw a real car in the parking lot, I was stunned for three seconds, and then couldn't help but say, Holy shit, this thing can finally be seen.

Get inside? This is what a Mercedes should look like.

If you think that the interior of EQS is built up with three large screens, then the actual experience of the 2025 model will tell you that you are too naive. The MBUX system is upgraded to the latest version. Although the logic of the 0-level menu is still a bit stubborn as a German (you insist on finding a seat to heat it twice), the voice control is ridiculously strong. If you say,"My feet are cold," it really only turns on the warm air on your feet and won't waste time with you. Moreover, the new material combination, the kind of aluminum trim panels and perforated wood splicing, can directly fill the feeling of advanced quality with a hit of light. The only thing I want to complain about is that the large piece of piano paint on the center console... The fingerprint collector deserves its reputation.

Drive up: Not fast, but leisurely enough to make you forget the speed

Be reasonable, 516 horsepower? Dual motors? These data will not be explosive in 2025. But the essence of the EQS450 is not zero-hundred acceleration-although 3.8 seconds is scary. Its essence is the texture of "sliding on the surface". Even Tesla Model S Plaid can't give you the sense of suspension. The air suspension filters out all bumps, but it's not the kind of rocking like a boat. You can feel the road, but everything sharp is rounded out and handed over to you. The steering angle of the rear wheels is abnormally large, and when you turn around, you feel like you are driving an A-class car. Really, don't use it to run the track, this is not its battlefield. Its battlefield is the evening rush hour of traffic jams. You sit inside and listen to the Burmester stereo, and all the anxiety outside has nothing to do with you.

Endurance? Finally no longer anxious

The old model has the embarrassment of "nominal 640 actual winter 400", but the new model has really improved. Battery capacity has not changed much, but thermal management logic has been optimized. I was running at minus 5 degrees and turning on the air conditioner, but I was still able to run a real score of about 460 kilometers, and the battery life was really declining very honestly-not the kind of first 50% that is very durable, but the last 50% went crazy. The peak charging power can still reach 200kW, but you need to find a reliable pile (you know, the "Schrödinger power" of domestic charging piles). In general, it is enough for daily use, and it is only possible for long-distance use, but don't think about saving more peace of mind than changing electricity with Weilai.

Some details that I want to scold but can't scold out

First of all, I have been using the steering wheel button for a year, but I still touch it by mistake. Secondly, there is definitely enough space in the back row, but the seat angle is too upright, and the waist is a little weird after sitting for a long time-a car of this class should not. Finally, the price... starting at 2025, the price is close to 1.1 million yuan, and after selecting a few bags, it can easily exceed 1.3 million yuan. Do you think it's worth it? From an experiential point of view, there is no substitute for the "land yacht"-like texture at the same price. But if you only pursue a sense of technology or cost-effectiveness, the Tesla Model S or NIO ET7 may be more "rational". But then again, do people who buy EQS care about reason? It won't.

Change is good, but don't expect it to become someone else

The 2025 EQS450 does not subvert itself. It just smoothes out the original distortions-awkward design, clumsy interaction, and insufficiently candid battery life. It's still the quiet, luxurious, slightly conceited electric S-Class, but now you don't have to pay the price of compromise for its "pioneer". If you are considering an electric car of this level, go ahead and test drive it. Don't listen to me. Go drive for an hour and you will understand why I said "change is good".
