First Drives

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Drive

First glance: This appearance is here to grab a job, right?

To be honest, when I first saw this real GLC Electric Drive, I almost didn't recognize it as a Mercedes-Benz. The closed grille on the front face is equipped with a huge three-pronged star emblem, and it will still shine at night, which is very sexy! The body lines are much smoother than those of current oil trucks, and the low roof arc gives the visual feel of a coupe SUV. The most outrageous thing is the wheel hub-22 inches, which is almost filled with the wheel arch, and the aerodynamics are designed like a work of art. Although I can't say I particularly like this overly "futuristic" style, I have to say that the rate of turning back when parked on the roadside is definitely higher than that of the BMW iX3 next door.

Sit in: The sense of luxury remains the same, but some places make me want to curse

The moment I pulled the car door open, I admitted that I said "wow". The entire central control is penetrated by a huge curved screen, extending from the dashboard to the passenger seat, with a resolution so delicate that you can see the pores clearly. The leather of the seat feels like baby skin, and the stitching is the kind of symmetry that would feel comfortable for people with OCD. But! Here's the point-this car cuts off almost all physical buttons, and even has to poke the screen to adjust the air conditioner temperature. It's killing when driving. Moreover, the touch feedback bar feels like a cheap mobile phone, which is completely inferior to the million-dollar price. The space in the back row is a bit larger than that of the old model, but the top of the head is a bit depressed because of the sliding back shape, and people above 1.8 meters may hit their heads.

Turn it on: The electric drive smells so fragrant, but the chassis makes my blood pressure rise and fall

Press the start button (which is actually just a virtual button) and slip out of the parking space quietly. This kind of tranquility cannot be given by fuel trucks. In terms of power, 400 horsepower dual motors, official zero hundred seconds, the feeling of pushing your back is as strong as riding a roller coaster, especially when you step on it instantly in sports mode, and your soul can hardly catch up with your body. However, the chassis training was a bit schizophrenic-in comfort mode, it was as soft as sailing a boat, and the speed bumps shook my stomach; when switching to sports mode, it was as hard as no shock absorber, and every crack in the road could be clearly transmitted to your butt. Isn't there a compromise? Mercedes, wake up! In terms of endurance, the official said WLTP can run 550 kilometers, I measured high speed plus violent driving about 400, barely enough.

Technology and intelligence: a bit smart, but occasionally stupid

The thing that really gets me is the L2+ assisted driving, which basically lets go of the steering wheel at high speeds (although the law requires that hands not be left for too long), and the lane-changing overtaking action is as slippery as an old driver. But when I arrived at the complex road conditions in the city, I became timid: once, a battery car suddenly jumped out of the intersection, and it put a sudden brake and almost broke my cervical vertebra. There is also that voice assistant. I call it "Hey Mercedes" eight times out of ten times, and it ignores me and has to use that very artificial broadcast voice to be effective. The wireless charging pad is really powerful. The iPhone swish and charges, but the position is hidden under the armrest box. You have to bend down and grope to hold the phone. Who came up with this anti-human design?

A few final words: Is it worth buying?

If you look at the product power alone, this GLC Electric Drive can definitely hit: online appearance, accelerated violence, and luxurious interior (except for anti-human touch). But its pricing-I guess it costs about RMB 800,000, while the Tesla Model Y Performance next door only sells for RMB 400,000, and it can still enjoy the same level of intelligence and performance. All you spend is the three-pronged star emblem and more exquisite workmanship. So, if you don't lack money and want an electric SUV with a platoon, it won't let you down; but if you want to pursue value for money, look at something else. Anyway, I'm waiting for it to reduce prices before thinking about it-after all, Mercedes-Benz offers are never missed, just late.
