Tested: The 2026 Audi Q3 Is Ready for a Bigger Role
Well, I admit, when I first saw the 2026 Audi Q3, I almost didn't recognize it. This product... Why did it suddenly grow? You know, in the past, the Q3 always gave me the feeling of "trying to pretend to be a mature child". The body was as compact as a yoga practitioner, and the back row was crowded even for dogs. But this time it's different-Audi seems to have filled it with a whole bottle of growth hormone, jumping directly from a compact SUV to a "quasi-medium" position. You are still called Q3, but your aura has completely changed. Standing next to Q5, you don't have stage fright anymore! This taste of "counterattack" makes even an old car critic like me a little excited.
Appearance: Finally hard, but still sexy
The appearance of the new Q3 really shows "ambition" at a glance. The huge honeycomb grille on the front face is almost the same in size as the Q7, but it is flatter and wider. It is equipped with sharp matrix headlights on both sides, giving a "don't mess with me" expression. The side lines are no longer round, but have a clear and powerful waist line, extending from the front to the taillights, like an athlete's tight muscles. The design of the rear is the most interesting-Audi actually installed it with a through-tail light, and the LED module inside the light group can present a flowing animation effect, which is like dancing when unlocking at night! However, the black plastic surrounding the wheel arches still retains a little off-road feel. Well, after all, it is still an SUV, not a coupe. To be honest, this beauty will definitely attract people to turn their heads on the street, especially the Samoja Orange car paint, which makes people's eyes hurt in the sun.

Interior: It's a lot of technology, but don't expect it to be as luxurious as the A6
When you sit in the cockpit, your first reaction is "Wow"-the 11.9-inch LCD instrument panel and the 14.5-inch central control touch screen are directly connected to a whole piece of curved glass, like a huge iPad Pro standing in front of you. The system's reaction speed is extremely fast, and the new MMI interface has finally abandoned those anti-human menu levels and is as easy to use as a mobile phone. The air conditioner outlet is hidden and will only be extended when it needs to be adjusted, which is very ceremonial. But don't be happy too soon. Audi still has a hand in the materials-the top of the center console is soft enamel plastic, but the place where the lower part of the door panel contacts the knees is still hard plastic, which is still close to the Q5 e-tron. But thinking about its positioning, I feel relieved. What surprised me the most was the steering wheel, which was flat-bottomed and perforated leather, with a strong grip, and there were gearshift paddles behind it, which made it feel sporty.
Power and driving experience: stable, but also heavier
This test drive is a 2.0T four-cylinder gasoline version, matching a 7-speed dual clutch, and the maximum horsepower should be 228 horses (specific parameters depend on different markets). The start is light and the turbine intervention is smooth, unlike the old models that will suddenly kick you. But in sports mode, the gearbox becomes neurotic again-when downshifting and overtaking, it will downshift two gears in a row, and the engine speed will instantly rise. Although the "buzz-whoosh" sound is not as thick as the V6, it is enough to make the corners of your mouth rise. But I have to complain: the weight of the car has really increased, at least 100 kilograms more than the old model. When cornering, the inertia of the car body can be felt greater, the suspension is also obviously biased towards comfortable adjustment, and the roll suppression when quickly merging is not as good as the BMW X1 is so straightforward. To put it bluntly, the Q3 is no longer positioned as a "small steel cannon SUV", but as a stable luxury scooter. Oh, by the way, the plug-in version will come in the future. The pure electric battery life is estimated to be around 70 kilometers, but the test drive has not arrived yet, so I can only leave a thought.

Space: People can finally sit in the back row, but the trunk is still stingy
The lengthened rear legroom is simply a qualitative change! I am 178 cm tall, I have a good sitting position in the front row, and I can cross my legs in the back row-this is simply a fantasy in the old model. Moreover, the angle of the seat back can be adjusted, improving the comfort of long-distance riding to a higher level. But the storage space is a bit too cramped: there are only two cup holders in the center console, and the wireless charging pad of the mobile phone is a bit far back, making it inconvenient to take it. Officials say the trunk volume is about 480 liters. The data looks okay, but the actual opening height is a bit low. You have to enter it obliquely to put a baby carriage. Alas, Audi still can't compete with Honda's "space magicians" in terms of space utilization. However, there is a hidden storage compartment under the floor where you can put some small debris, which is barely a compensation.
Competitors and positioning: It finally dares to compete head-on with the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLB
In the past, Q3 could only play with X1 and GLB, but its size suffered a disadvantage and was often crushed. It's different now. The wheelbase of the new Q3 is close to 2700 mm, almost the same as the X1, and the interior space is not at a disadvantage. Moreover, its interior technology is obviously more dazzling than that of the X1 (the BMW is still a little bit crooked), and it attracts more young buyers than GLB's three-pronged Star Logo. But the price... I don't think it will be cheap. Referring to overseas markets, the starting price of the 2.0T four-wheel drive version is likely to be more than US$40,000, equivalent to nearly RMB 300,000, which overlaps with the X1 high-end offering. If you care more about brand recognition and driving pleasure, the X1 is still a better choice; but if you want a better intelligent experience and more refined interiors, the Q3 really won this time.

Summary: Is it worth buying? My answer is-wait and see the price
To be honest, the change for the 2026 Q3 is huge. It has changed from a "do-do choice" to a "serious choice." There is enough space, online beauty, full technology, and still drives with Audi's usual ease-as a luxury brand compact SUV, it has exceeded its mission. But! Yes! If the pricing is too high and is only twenty to thirty thousand yuan short of Q5, then I advise you to go directly to Q5. After all, no matter how big the Q3 is, it is still a Q3. There is still a gap between the chassis texture and sound insulation level and the Q5. But for young people who have just started a family, limited budgets but want a luxury brand, this Q3 is definitely an option worth putting in the shopping cart. I even think it may become a dark horse for Audi's sales in China-as long as Audi doesn't kill itself and cut the configuration too hard. Okay, I'm done venting my feelings. I'll go and take an in-depth test when the domestic version is launched, and I'll tell you more details then!
