Santa Cruz

Hyundai's Santa Cruz is based on the Tucson SUV but adds a small, four-foot cargo bed. The bed's stubby length means it won't haul big loads like a mid-size or full-size pickup, but an available tonneau cover makes it as secure and weather-tight as a passenger car's trunk. The Santa Cruz model line is bifurcated into lower trims with a 191-hp four-cylinder and higher trims with a much more potent 281-hp turbo-four. The latter is our preference, but the hefty upcharge may give some buyers pause.
