Polestar 2

Polestar has tinkered with its electric 2 hatchback—it’s a cross between a car and a crossover—since the model’s introduction in 2021, playing with motor output, batteries, and which wheels are powered. In its 2025 latest iteration, it comes only one way: with the company’s largest battery pack, all-wheel drive, and the Performance package’s higher-output motors. That means it’s outfitted with a 469-hp dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain, draws power from a 79.0-kWh battery, and has a middling EPA range estimate of 254 miles. Scandinavian design influence is evident in the simple exterior styling and subdued-but-classy cabin, and in a Google-based infotainment system that’s spare in its looks but easy to navigate. The 2 is pretty quick, and the now-mandatory Performance pack’s chassis upgrades make it responsive to the helm and fun to drive. However, there are numerous quicker, longer-range, and less expensive small EVs—the Tesla Model 3 fits all three bills—making the Polestar 2 a tougher sell.
