Car and Driver's ranking comes from two aspects: one is the data results obtained from our extensive instrument testing of hundreds of vehicles every year, and the other is the subjective feelings accumulated by our professional editors in actual road driving. We ranked the best vans based on approximately 200 data points, covering aspects such as acceleration, handling, comfort, cargo space, fuel efficiency, value for money and driving pleasure. We are very strict about ranking because we want you to know the models you are interested in.

Car and Driver's rankings are based on the results of a large number of instrument tests we conduct on hundreds of cars every year, as well as the true subjective feelings our expert editors gain when driving. We selected the safest mini van based on data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and rated each car based on approximately 200 data points covering acceleration, handling, comfort, cargo space, fuel efficiency, value for money, and enjoyment of driving. We take rankings very seriously because we want you to have a comprehensive understanding of the vehicles you are interested in. This list includes all small vans that won the IIHS "Best Safety Choice" award and the NHTSA five-star safety rating in 2024. All passenger cars must pass strict safety standards set by NHTSA. So if the minivan you're looking for isn't on this list, it's likely because it hasn't been tested by IIHS or NHTSA (or both).
