Cars with the Best Gas Mileage

The ranking of "Car and Driver" comes from the comprehensive instrument test data we conduct on hundreds of models every year, as well as the subjective driving experience accumulated by editorial experts in actual driving. When selecting the best car, we referred to about 200 data indicators, covering acceleration performance, handling, comfort, storage space, fuel economy, cost performance and driving pleasure. We treat this ranking extremely carefully because we want you to fully understand every detail of your favorite model.

How We Rank

When buying a car, vehicle efficiency is one of the most critical considerations. Modern models are generally much more fuel-efficient than older cars of the past, but there is still a distinction between the performance of different models. The list covers mainstream hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure gasoline cars and hatchbacks, all with a combined fuel consumption of more than 33 miles per gallon (about 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers). We have listed the most fuel-efficient models based on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's official fuel efficiency data and ratings. The rankings are ranked from high to low overall fuel consumption (MPG), although some models are labeled with MPGe values-these "equivalent miles per gallon" data only apply to plug-in hybrids.
