Car and Driver's ranking is based on two major bases: first, the large amount of instrument test data we conduct on hundreds of vehicle models every year, and the second, the subjective feelings accumulated by our professional editors in actual road driving. The list of the most fuel-efficient trucks compiled this time is based on official fuel efficiency data released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These trucks are ranked from high to low according to the EPA comprehensive fuel consumption rating, with all models achieving a combined fuel consumption of at least 20 miles per gallon in the most energy-efficient configuration. In addition, we also rated each truck comprehensively based on approximately 200 data points, covering acceleration performance, handling, comfort, cargo space, fuel efficiency, cost performance and driving pleasure. We always treat rankings strictly and seriously, because only in this way can you fully understand all aspects of your favorite model.
