Hybrid vehicles come in many forms, from cars to pickup trucks, SUVs, MPVs, and even sports cars. Some models tend to be energy-saving and fuel-efficient, while others use a combination of gasoline and electricity to significantly improve performance. Faced with so many hybrid models on the market, it is not easy to distinguish which ones are just "okay" and which ones are truly "outstanding". Because of this, we have included almost every hybrid vehicle in a comprehensive testing process.
The ranking of Car and Driver is based on the results of a large number of instrument tests we conduct on hundreds of models every year, as well as the subjective feelings of expert editors in the real driving environment. We select the best hybrid car based on approximately 200 data points, covering aspects such as acceleration, handling, comfort, cargo space, fuel efficiency, cost performance and driving pleasure. We take rankings very seriously because we want you to have a comprehensive understanding of every car you are interested in.
